Dear Christian – Your Politics are Supposed to be Different

Faith That Shapes More Than Sundays

Dear Christian,

If our faith is real, it should change everything — not just the songs we sing on Sunday morning, but the way we think, speak, and vote.

In Wyoming, we start most of our conservative meetings across the state with a prayer in Jesus’ name — but do we follow the rest of His Word when the meeting starts? Ephesians 4 (NKJV) tells us to “walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

Later in that same chapter, we’re told to “speak the truth in love” so that we may grow in Christ, and to “put away lying, let each one of you speak truth with his neighbor… Be angry, and do not sin… Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification.

Imagine what our politics — and our culture — would look like if we actually lived that out after saying “Amen.”

Salt, Light, and Leadership

In Matthew 5, Jesus calls us the “salt of the earth” and the “light of the world.” Salt preserves what is good. Light drives out darkness.

If we’re truly living as salt and light in Wyoming politics, that means:

  • Truth without compromise.
  • Compassion without enabling.
  • Courage without cruelty.
  • Justice without favoritism.

It means showing the world that politics can be different — because we, as Christians, are called to be different.

Be Something Different

It’s easy to get caught up in the same tactics the world uses — personal attacks, fearmongering, or chasing political wins at the expense of biblical convictions. But we’re called higher than that.

To Be Something Different as Christians in politics means:

  • Refusing to vote for someone just because they wear the “right” label.
  • Asking whether their actions match their words.
  • Putting biblical values above partisan loyalty.

More Than a Political Talking Point

I see too many candidates talk about faith as if it’s a marketing tool — a way to gain votes from churchgoers. But faith isn’t supposed to be a political talking point; it’s supposed to be the compass that directs every decision.

When I say my campaign is built on Faith, Family, Freedom, and the Future, it’s not because those words poll well — it’s because they are the pillars of how I live my life.

The Responsibility We Carry

As Christians, we’re not called to retreat from the public square. We’re called to show up — to bring the love of Christ and the truth of His Word into the places where decisions are made.

That doesn’t mean we turn government into church. But it does mean we measure every law, policy, and candidate against God’s standard for justice, righteousness, and mercy — and we conduct ourselves in a way that reflects Christ’s character, even in disagreement.

The Bottom Line

We can Give Freedom Back — because real freedom doesn’t need permission — but freedom without a moral foundation will eventually collapse.

If we want Wyoming’s future to be stronger, freer, and more faithful, it starts with Christians who live out their convictions in the way they vote, the way they lead, and the way they treat even those they disagree with.

Wyoming, let’s Be Something Different. Let’s live our faith in such a way that the world can’t help but notice — and be drawn to the truth.
